EAST LIVERPOOL -- Inductees for the 10-year anniversary of the Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame have been selected and will be honored at a ceremony and banquet Friday, June 13.
A private VIP reception is to be held at 5:30 p.m. June 13 at the Hall of Fame at 120 E. Fifth St., by invitation only, in order to allow current and past inductees an opportunity to be greeted by Coach Holtz and the Hall of Fame board of trustees. The reception is not open to the public.
A banquet and ceremony are to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the East Liverpool Motor Lodge, featuring a silent and live auction. Dinner will be served family-style at each table, and all attending are to receive a gift commemorative of the Hall of Fame’s 10-year anniversary. The banquet menu includes entrees of orange soy-glazed pork loin, London broil with mushrooms demi-glace and vegetable penne pasta in scampi sauce as well as salad, side dishes and desserts.
The Hall of Fame will recognize businesses and individuals who have contributed more than $10,000 in the past ten years, earning them membership in the Leadership donor category. Also to be acknowledged at the banquet are the nine local teachers selected as winners of the "I Believe in YOUth" grants in the program’s inaugural year.
On Saturday, June 14, a luncheon is planned at the Hall of Fame to recognize 2008 recipients of the Lou Holtz Life Improvement Scholarship Award. Jim Connelly, Hall of Fame board of trustee member and 2002 Distinguished American inductee, is to speak to the scholarship students. Connelly served for 10 years as the general manager of the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in California, having worked his way up from room clerk. He is chairman of Integrated Communications Services, and he is the author of “One More Sunset,” a book detailing the extraordinary account of his friend Donna Jones' brush with death and fight to live independently despite great obstacles. Following the luncheon, Coach Holtz will address the students and then hold a question-and-answer session with them prior to each student being professionally photographed with him.
No golf outing is planned as a part of this year's activities.
Those with questions about the upcoming events may contact the Hall of Fame at 386-5443. UPDATE: Tickets to the 2008 banquet are sold out.
