Tim McCoy
As Vice President and General Manager of WTOV9, Tim McCoy has demonstrated leadership skills that he initially exhibited as a member of his high school graduation class from Jefferson Union, now Edison High School in 1977. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from Kent State University, Tim first joined WTOV9 as a news videographer and worked with the great newsman Red Donley. From there he was promoted to promotion producer from 1982-85 and then spent three years at NBC affiliate WLEX-TV in Lexington, Ky., as promotions and creative services director, where he received two ADDY awards.
Returning to the Ohio Valley, Tim served as WTOV’s operations manager for six years prior to being named to his present position in 1994. From that time forward, Tim McCoy has taken the lead role in expanding broadcast and internet coverage of the Ohio Valley, specifically high school sports and the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference. Under his direction WTOV9 has been nominated for several regional EMMY awards and several statewide television broadcast-related awards. Tim was instrumental in developing “Sports Friday” and the “WTOV9 High School Football Game of the Week”, Many Ohio Valley fans will be quick to agree that few sports shows are on a par with these throughout the local high school football season. He was also instrumental in acquiring the broadcast rights to televise Jamboree in the Hills on WTOV9. This summer will mark the 26th consecutive year Jamboree in the Hills will be televised to Ohio Valley viewers.
Success has not been limited to Tim’s chosen profession, however. The list of his community involvement dramatically reflects his personal commitment to the Upper Ohio Valley. He has served on virtually every board and committee of significance in the region, including as president and campaign chairman of the United Way of Jefferson County. He has been involved with the St. John Arena, the Steubenville Rotary and the Steubenville City of Murals. He is also a member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce, Franciscan University of Steubenville and Historic Fort Steuben.
Tim is proud to have been named 1995 City of Murals “Volunteer of the Year,” the Community Leadership Award from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, a Community Award from the Steubenville branch of the NAACP, and the One-in-a-Million Award from the Steubenville Million Man March Committee, as well as being the 1997 Robert S. McKelvey Memorial Award recipient from the Upper Ohio Valley Dapper Dan Club. In 2013, Tim was inducted into the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
Tim is most proud of his role in developing the WTOV9 Coats for Kids program. For the past 21 years WTOV9 and its loyal viewers and business partners have raised more than ¾ of a million dollars to purchase new winter coats for children here in the Ohio Valley.
He is married to the former Kelli Olexia and they are the parents of Timothy Quinn and Shea Alexa McCoy, who share with them their love of horses and sports.
